Soekarno-Hatta Deploys 98 Auto Gates to Streamline Eid al-Fitr Travel

Marclan International - Nyepi Experience

Eid al-Fitr marks one of the busiest travel seasons in Indonesia, prompting Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to enhance its immigration process. To facilitate smoother passenger movement, the airport has introduced 98 auto gates, expediting passport control for returning Indonesian migrant workers, members of the diaspora, and international travelers.

Auto Gates Functionality

The newly implemented auto gates significantly reduce processing times, allowing travelers to complete their immigration checks within 15 to 25 seconds. The process involves:

  • Scanning an electronic passport (for Indonesian citizens) or electronic visa (for foreign nationals)
  • Undergoing biometric verification (fingerprint and facial recognition)
  • Proceeding seamlessly through immigration control

To manage the increased travel demand, 531 immigration personnel have been deployed at the airport. Johanes Fanny Satria Cahya Aprianto, Head of the Immigration Office, has emphasized that these measures aim to prevent congestion and long queues at checkpoints.

Tips for Smooth Travel

Prepare Your Travel Documents

Have your passport, visa, and other necessary travel documents readily accessible to speed up the immigration process. Digital copies can serve as backups in case of emergencies. Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months before departure. Travelers with soon-to-expire passports are encouraged to utilize the airport’s expedited renewal services to avoid last-minute disruptions.

Adhere to Immigration Guidelines

Follow all instructions provided by immigration officers and signage at the auto gates. Ensure you are standing in the correct lane and have completed any required forms in advance.

Arrive Early

Due to high travel volumes, passengers should allow extra time for security and immigration clearance. Arriving at the airport at least three hours before departure can help prevent unnecessary stress.

Report Any Irregularities

The immigration office is committed to upholding transparency and integrity. If you encounter any instances of extortion or unethical practices, report them immediately via the designated WhatsApp hotline.

This initiative aligns with the broader strategy of Angkasa Pura Indonesia, the airport’s managing authority, to enhance passenger convenience during peak travel periods. By leveraging advanced technology and efficient service protocols, the airport aims to provide a seamless travel experience, particularly during high-traffic holidays such as Eid al-Fitr. Are you ready to experience a faster, smoother journey home this Eid?
